Boat Description

#342 was one of the original Albacores imported by George O'Day for the Hyannis Port fleet (s/n stamped in transom was #541). Original paint was medium blue topsides with red underwater. Purchased by John Duncan in 1969 and modernized/refinished. Refinishing process was so arduous that he swore never again to buy an old wood boat- thus #342 came to be called Never Again. Paint scheme was green with yellow water line except for a brief time in 1970's when it was green with yellow on one side and yellow with green on the other side. Fairey Marine spars replaced by Elvstrom spars about 1974. Boat was heavily damaged at 1976 US Nationals at Red Bank, NJ when a big wave flung her against a pier. Sold to Peter Duncan and partially restored in 1977. Pulled out of service for full restoration in 1980. Project was delayed until 1988 and completed in 1992. This restoration included new centerboard trunk, seats, and decks. Buoyance was converted from airbags to tanks. Elvstrom spars replaced with SuperSpar mast and boom. Finished 19th in 1999 US Nationals and 30th in 1999 Internationals.
