Boat Description
Gidget came from England to the Hyannis Port Yacht Club as part of their fleet purchase where she was sailed for approx ten years. She was purchased by Charlie Loutrel and brought to the Potomac River Fleet, subsequently purchased by Bob Toler, who painted her hull bright red, then went to Solomons Island on the Chesapeake, where Bob Polk bought her and under whose helmsmanship she was hit by lightning on the Potomac River while returning from the race course. The mainsail had been lowered and was lying on the boom; it was melted. The lightning charge also jumped off the mast and burst a hole through the hull. After repairs she was bought by John Duncan and raced on the Potomac and then in Muskoka, Ontario until 2004 at which time she was returned south to participate in the Albacore 50th anniversary regatta at West River Sailing Club. Gidget is slated to return to Muskoka.
